Trent Sanderson can’t imagine any way of life other than working on the farm. The 31-year-old Clare, Illinois, native is a seventh-generation farmer, growing corn, soybeans, wheat, rye and oats, as well as baling hay to feed his cow-calf operation.

The Sanderson Family Farm is a self-sufficient operation. In addition to sowing, caring for and harvesting the crop, Trent has to be the farm’s bookkeeper, mechanic, business consultant and soil scientist. Every spring, Trent pores through past years’ data to write a planting prescription tailored to each field’s topography and soil composition. Watch how Trent uses technology to maximize his yields while caring for the health of his family’s land.
